The SOUTHERN STEEL Band:
"It's a pretty impressive thing when the New Jersey-based Southern Steel gets its motor running.
Twin lead guitars, a chugging rhythm section, and a rock-solid lead vocalist with plenty of Southern attitude even if they are from Jersey makes for a full-on Southern rock experience. Into the Allmans, Skynyrd, Outlaws, 38 Special and Marshall Tucker? Then check these boys out...".

Marshall Tucker Band / Southern Steel - The Starland Ballroom Written by Hank "Hitman" Hart Thursday, 29 July 2010 Seems like just a week or so ago that I saw The Outlaws and New Jersey's Southern Steel at The Starland Ballroom. I mentioned in my review how I loved the venue for many reasons. Well pardners, I went back again a few nights ago to see Marshall Tucker and again, Southern Steel. Look, it's obvious I like "The New Jersey Guitar Army", Southern Steel. If you are a fan of this type of music, there's no other bands to go see in NJ that plays the local clubs/bars/festivals/fairs. I reviewed them last month with The Outlaws and Southern Steel got the place jumping. They did that again, and to me, this set was even better. Of course, I'm biased because the set had a heavy dose of Outlaws!!! Honestly....cowboys and cowgirls, a butt kickin' set of "Grey Ghost" by The Henry Paul Band, .38 Special's "Hold On Loosely", then The Outlaws' "Freeborn Man', into ABB's "Ramblin' Man" and to finish up the knockout punch, another Outlaws' tune, "Green Grass and High Tides". For this show, lead singer/frontman Bill Hipple abandonded his guitar altogether and the band had with them, Southern Fury's guitarist, Dean Bartone. Dean, Dave Sorber and Tom Napurano are quite a formidable guitar trio, not to mention those are some big ol' boys that could probably be the linebackers for the New York Giants! Seriously folks, the guys rocked hard and here's where I have got to take a shot at The Starland marketing people. Who the heck was the headline act? Marshall Tucker, a SOUTHERN ROCK band? It would have made a helluva lot more sense to have Southern Steel be the band right before Tucker. Hey, the other 2 bands, The Hollow, not bad, young guys, and also Cool Days End, a real tight rockin' band but more of a party type band in the vein of Springsteen or Southside Johnny...good band, excellent in fact, but c'mon, let's try to keep the same genre of music together in the future.
