MISSION: Races Cultural Center, a NJ Nonprofit Corporation is interested in the preservation of Caribbean cultures as reflected in music, art, dance, and the spoken word. Races Cultural Center's principal goal is the investigation, compilation, documentation, preservation, and dissemination of traditional Caribbean culture through art.

VISION: "Races" means roots. Races Cultural Center has put down its roots in the Hub City of New Brunswick, creating a home for the cultural arts in Central NJ.

Races seeks to foster a vibrant community of artists and create a center for exploration, collaboration and cultural fusion within the performing, visual and media arts. We believe that the arts are for everyone, that the creative process is a basic aspect of the human experience, and we encourage all to participate.

Races Cultural Center provides the tools, resources and training for artists to succeed creatively as well as sustain themselves economically. Artists are encouraged to make their life around their art and are given the opportunities and venues to support themselves through their work in the arts.

ENSEMBLE: The Races Cultural Center Ensemble is comprised of an intergenerational mix of advanced students and professional musicians. With a repertoire consisting of a variety of folkloric and traditional Caribbean genres such as rumba, comparsa, carnival, mozambique, bomba, plena, sn, guajira, cha-cha-cha and the folkloric Santera liturgy, and a fusion of modern genres such as spoken word poetry, hip hop and salsa, the Races Ensemble interprets, preserves and disseminates a living history, while providing professional opportunities to local performing, visual and media artists.
